DeckchairsApril 2008 - DECKCHAIRS by Jean McConnell

Take a sea front, a park, a couple of deckchairs and a variety of stories. Add Jean McConnell’s skilful writing and you have Deckchairs, a charming collection of short twist-in-the-tail plays each involving two characters sitting beside the sea. This pot-pourri of short plays delicately observes life and is brimming with colourful and animated characters. Sometimes humorous, sometimes hilarious, sometimes touching but always written with truth and compassion. A wonderful evening’s entertainment.

December 2007 - "Little Women", at the Library Theatre, Sheffield

Little Women is a well known and well loved classic. Written in 1867, it is a fictionalised biography of author Louisa May Alcott and her sisters. Set in the 1860s in a New England town, most of this theatrical adaptation revolves around the March family home. With father away, serving as a clergyman for soldiers fighting in the Civil War, the four daughters and their mother remain at home, struggling to live as comfortably as possible under the circumstances and, in the process, confronting conflicts between domestic duties and independence.

“The Telegraph” “All four 'little women' are most ably portrayed and there is nicely judged ensemble-playing throughout”

“The Telegraph” “A pacy, nicely detailed production"... "The audience was engrossed throughout"
